Sounds like an apples and oranges comparison. Core 2 Duo is a type of CPU chipset, of various models. Centrino is a package of chipset (apparantly could be a duo, or a cheap @ss pentium, or another dual core intel) along with the wireless system. In other words - a marketing gimmick.
